Notice of Race

The Organizing Authority (OA) is The Beverly Yacht Club.

1.0 Rules

1.1 The Championship will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2 In accordance with the Beverly Yacht Club rules, all competitors shallt wear a properly fastened USCG-approved personal flotation device while racing, except for brief periods while changing clothing.

2.0 Eligibility

2.1 The regatta is open to all eligible boats conforming to the 2008 H Class rules.

2.2 All boats must have paid 2010 H Class Association dues by start of racing.

2.3 In the Junior Championship on Friday, the skipper and crew must be under 18 years old as of 12/31/10. The Junior Championship will not be held unless three or more junior skippers register to compete.

3.0 Advertising

Advertising will be restricted to Category A.

4.0 Classification

The ISAF sailor classification will apply.

5.0 Event Headquarters

Event Headquarters will be The Beverly Yacht Club, 99 Water Street, Marion, MA.

6.0 Entry and Fees

6.1 Entry forms will be available on H Class Association website (www.herreshoff12.org) and must be completed including an executed liability waiver. Entry is open until the day of the regatta.

6.2 Junior Championship: no fee

6.3 Senior Championship: $40

7.0 Schedule of Events*

8.0 Mooring and Docking

Limited moorings are available, compliments of Tabor Academy, if pre-reserved on the Entry Form. Contact the Beverly Yacht Club launch on Channel 68 upon passing the light buoy (Red-8) at the mouth of the Sippican Harbor. A Beverly Yacht Club launch will guide you to a mooring. Launch service will be available throughout the event.

9.0 Sailing Instructions, Courses, Race area

9.1 The sailing instructions will be made available after 1600 on July 29, 2010. They will be available at registration and on line at www.herreshoff12.org.

9.2 Racing will be in outer Sippican Harbor between Converse Point, Centerboard Shoal and Butler’s Point. A chart will be available upon registration.

9.3 The Race Committee will select courses as described in the sailing instructions. Courses will be posted on the Race Committee Boat.

10.0 Scoring

10.1 The Low Point Scoring System Appendix A of the Racing Rules will apply, as modified by the Sailing Instructions.

10.2 Multiple races are scheduled, of which two shall be completed to constitute a series.

10.3 If fewer than five races are completed, each boat’s series score shall be the total of her race scores.

10.4 If five or more races are completed, each boat’s series score shall be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

11.0 Penalty System

The scoring penalty, rule 44.1, will apply.

12.0 Prizes

12.1 Prizes to be awarded to the first place boat in each class. A second place prize will be awarded if there are four or more entries. A third place prize will be awarded if there are five or more entries.

12.2 Special Trophies:

12.2(a) The Quissett Yacht Club H Class Championship Team Trophy
Best team of three boats from one yacht club with the lowest aggregate score.

12.2(b) The Special Junior Skipper Trophy
Given to the qualifying junior skipper who sails in all Class Championship races with the lowest total point score of all juniors. This trophy is awarded if there are two qualifying junior skippers.

12.2(c) The Savvy Sailor Award
Given to the best skipper 65 or older providing there are two or more qualifying skippers. No one under the age of 65 may touch the tiller after the preparatory signal for each race. The crew may be any age.

13.0 Radio Communication

A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

14.0 Haul-out Restrictions

Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the race committee.

15.0 Diving Equipment and Plastic Pools

Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta.

16.0 Liability

16.1 As a condition of entry, each skipper and participating crew member shall sign a liability waiver prior to racing. The Waiver Form is found on the reverse side of the entry form, and at www.herreshoff12.org

16.2 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

17.0 Breakfast & Lunches

17.1 Complimentary coffee, tea and muffins will be served under the tent for the Junior and Senior Series starting at 0815.

17.2 Friday’s Junior Series’ lunch will be available at the BYC clubhouse for pickup following the skipper’s meeting

17.3 Saturday’s lunch will be will be available at the BYC clubhouse for pickup following the skipper’s meeting

17.4 Cash bar and grill will be available after last race on Sunday.
